Judy Shepard has a message for Sally Kern
Posted by qinnoe under Gay Life, Politics, religion | Tags: Matthew Shepard, Sally Kern, Victory Fund |Read the full text of the statement by the mother of Matthew Shepard to Sally Kern at the Victory Fund, the site which obtained and released the audio tape of the now-infamous Kern spewing her hate message to constituents. Kern continues to stand by her message. The alarming part of this story is not how a woman of Kern’s character got elected in Oklahoma, nor even that she refuses to apologize. The alarming part is that she has not been sidelined or marginalized but in fact is being applauded by fellow Republicans.
“My son died nearly ten years ago at the hands of people whose hatred changed many lives that day. It hardened hearts and brought others to their knees. It shook a nation and enraged millions. At that time, I knew there was a window of opportunity that I could use Matthew’s story and my voice in replacing hate with understanding, compassion and acceptance. Through the Matthew Shepard Foundation, we are reaching young people who are at risk of being poisoned by the dark ideas of people like Sally Kern. I don’t know why Sally Kern is proud of comparing gay people to cancer or terrorism, but count me as someone who’s listening now to people like her. She may be free to say people like my son are a threat to America, but when she does she puts other mothers’ sons in danger. I pray she doesn’t say it anymore.”

First things first, I am straight, but I am continusly amazed at how down right deplorable people are against Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and trans-genders, Some of my friends fall into the first three catagories, So in their honor I would say this to all the people who hate people of this orintation, if they found love, even if its with some one of their sex, or if they perfer both, or became one from the other, you should respect them, since in all honesty they would probably respect you as well. That being said, I wish Mrs, Shephard the best regaurds, about having to endure this tragedy. In Mathews Honor I hope they have a Nat’l day of remembrence for him especially this year.

Yeah.. I was going to write this on another site, but my computer is taking revenge on me, for srsly. And, I NEED to post this somewhere.. I love opinions. So, here..
I’m only 14, and I also very much believe this is pretty messed up. People should for srsly just get over themselves, sure, Matther’s killers say NOW, now that he’s dead, that they regret it, but remorse and regret won’t bring a great and innocent man back to life. It was obviously preventable.
It COULD be a hate crime, it could be about drugs, it could be about just about anything, but, exactly, that main point is that two drugged up idiots, tied a defenseless human being to a fence and beat him senseless. It was definitely wrong, but nothing can change it. All we can do now is remember, and give more people hope.
I totally give props to the parents tho, absolute respect. Most people would’ve given their son’s killers the death penalty, but they understand the reasons, and what they deserve. They know that, we shouldn’t be killing people, for killing people, to show killing people is wrong, or to let their son have revenge. Because they loved Matthew and they knew he prolly wouldn’t have wanted that.
McKinney and Henderson had their chance at life, and they screwed it up, you only get one chance. [Unless of course something happens after life, but I wouldn't know, obviously.] This just shows one bad choice in life, can ruin absolutely everything.
[[Sorry If I trailed off at all, I do that sometimes when I express opinions. And sorry for any spelling mistakes.]]
