Milk video leaked

February 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Some video footage of the Castro transformed for the upcoming Harvey Milk film has found its way to YouTube.  Sean Penn and Emile Hirsch can be seen briefly.  Catch the dialogue of the friends who are shooting this (and trying not to be noticed) as they muse about Sean Penn and his history of assaulting papparazzi, and then later wondering out loud who Cleve Jones (played by Emile Hirsh) is.   Wow I really hope this doesn’t bring the ‘Fro back.

Filming Milk in the Castro

February 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Last night the movie production Milk filmed crowd shots and protest marchers, as Castro Street was closed from 6:30pm to midnight.  I had toyed with the idea of being an extra, but decided it would be too mind-numbing to counterbalance the thrill of being part of the production.  I think this first-hand report confirms my decision, but I can’t wait to see the results of everyone’s efforts.  I haven’t spied Sean Penn yet,  but finally saw the Star Trailer parked on 19th and Noe yesterday.  The Castro Shopper has a story about the businesses whose storefront’s have been transmogrified back to the 1970s for the film.   They’re filming on the ‘Stro again on Friday night.  Check it out if you’re so inclined.  Location filming is wrapping up quickly.

MILK in the Castro

February 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

penn.jpgAs you all undoubtedly know, my dears,  the Castro has been going though some plastic surgery of late.  To make it look like it did in the 70s, for the filming of ‘Milk’, the Gus Van Sant / Sean Penn film about Harvey Milk.  Storefronts are being transformed,  old cars parked on the street,  extras are being costumed in bell bottoms and beads.  Gay Cities has caught the process in pictures.
