Blue Angels turn local flocks green with envy

I’m on the roofdeck working on a very dry metrics section for a technical whitepaper.  The Blue Angels are here practicing for the weekend, when they do a show as part of San Francisco’s Fleet Week.  Fun to watch.

I notice that the pigeons in town are either afraid, or inspired, by the screaming metal eagles zooming past.  Whenever the Blue Angels fly by, the same pigeons who normally can barely be bothered to fly away before you smack them with your front fender, launch themselves into formation and fly a few loops before giving up and roosting again.  Are they scared?  Are the inspired?  Envious?  Go pigeons, go!

The formation flying also makes me recall the new Rolling Stone investigation of John McCain and his time in the Navy as a pilot.  He bombed, figuratively not literally.
