Inferiority complex

Business Week on the top-10 most expensive small towns in America

Browsing the news this morning, I came across an item that is sure to give the new Mayor of San Jose Chuck Reed an even bigger inferiority complex vis-a-vis San Francisco than is normally the case. San Jose in general (you know, the Capitol of Silicon Valley) has a feeling that its great features go unappreciated in the Bay Area.

I recall back early in the decade when the census report showed San Jose had surpassed San Francisco in population. There was talk in the paper of the renaming of maps to show the San Jose – San Franciso – Oakland metropolitan area, i.e. giving San Jose top billing. Well, Business Week’s current spread listing the most expensive small towns has the following spot, and note San Jose doesn’t even make it into the metro-area designation, being replaced instead by – drum roll – Fremont. Not sure who does BW’s fact-checking.
